Listening Room: Sam Coe 'Comeback Queen'
Hi everyone,
Hope you're all keeping well this February, the last month has flown by and I've recently had to take a few weeks off due to a family bereavement which was sudden. It's been a tough couple of weeks but I've taken the time to think a few things through as I've been listening to a lot of music including Sam Coe's debut album 'Comeback Queen'.

I first heard about Sam from her work with her band 'The Long Shadows' and her first debut solo album pushes new boundaries from the traditional country music scene. To start with, I didn't really know what to expect as this was different to what I'd heard before in country music. I loved hearing the influences from country, soul, Americana, folk and blues music within the album.
Sam is a British country artist from Norwich and is flying the flag in bringing a unique voice to the British country music scene, drawing upon rather the replicating the sound coming out of America.
Sam’s debut solo single 'Hard Time' went straight into the iTunes Country Chart at Number 2, a raw and honest take on her experiences.
The track 'Cruel' is gritty, determined yet beautifully soulful, 'Truth' is just as soulful but also raw and brave. The song 'Bonfire' is stripped back and showcases her musical talents and it's instrumentally stunning. I particularly love the lyric "it doesn't do well to return". It makes you really think and dig deeper into your own feelings. I found the song very cathartic and her vocals are stunning. However, my favourite track has to be 'Merry Go Round', I could relate to the story on a personal level, it is simply beautiful with such poetic lyrics. I find the song moving yet I find myself relaxing whilst listening to it.

This is an honest, raw, brave and beautiful album so do go and check it out. It is influenced by a variety of genres and yet is unique as Sam brings a new sound and vibe to the country music scene.
